Just an Update

I have been rather busy of late and if I wasn't doing some scrapping (which layout I have not yet finished!), we had no electricity for almost 2 days, I was leaving comments on blogs or swimming, or was away.

Our electricity went out last Tuesday at 12:45pm and only came back on Wednesday at 9:30pm. A cable blew up and destroyed the cable next to it. Our whole area had no lights. It was so irritating as Dereck would phone the department who would say that they were working on it, but in actual fact we are linked to another phase and the minute electricity is restored, it blows a fuse and us and our neighbour and one other are then without lights and when you try and explain this ..... no-one wants to listen!!

I have been trying to scrap Grant's graduations pictures. It has been rather slow and last night when I thought I would get a bit more done, Shelley and I ended up chatting so much that I managed to stick down two photos on their backing paper and cut them out!! At least there was some progress!!

I must say I enjoy checking out other people's blogs and there are quite a few I follow, so keeping up to date does take a while and then of course I have to visit facebook and do the word challenge - this is sooooo addictive!!!

I have been doing swimming training as Paula and Kate (from work), myself, Dereck and a friend Darryl have entered the non-company event in the Midmar Mile. I have been going fairly regularly to train and can comfortably swim 2km within an hour with a few minutes to spare and still feel good! We have an hour to swim 1.6km. I have done it before - 9 years ago, and am looking forward to the event next Saturday (7 February).

Dereck had to go to JHB this last week-end for a course that he was attending from Monday to Wednesday so he asked me to drive up with him on Saturday morning and then he would fly me back on Sunday evening. We left at 5:00am and after stopping just past Harrismith (I think) for breakfast we got to Joanne's place (his baby sister) at about 11:00am. Her children, Kerin and Ryan were pleased to see us and I had bought gingerbread men for them, which they were quite tickled about. We spent the morning just chatting and chilling and at about 2pm decided that we were hungry, so went to the Broadacres centre (I have been there previously with Desire, so was able to help them with directions!!!) We went to the Mugg and Bean and had a lovely relaxing afternoon. The evening we just sat round chatting again and much later had cheese and biscuits to fill the little gaps. Kerin and Ryan happily let me take some photos of them, which I will post once I have downloaded them off Dereck's camera.

On Sunday morning, Dereck and I left the duplex and went to another mall and then went to visit Desire & Conroy. We got to their place at about 10:00 and it was great to see them again. Saw her lovely new car, discussed scrapping things (how could we not!) and then sat down to a lovely piece of poppy seed cake and something cold to drink. We chatted and listened and watched the birdlife in her garden and at about 12:00 we left to go and meet a friend of Dereck's in Pretoria. Dereck and David have been friends since they were about 3. We met them at their house and then went to the Brooklyn Mall to a Greek restaurant for lunch. We had a wonderful time and a friend of their daughter who joined us had just returned from being in New York for a year, so we were getting some tips from her for our trip. We left there at about 4:30pm, drove back to Joanne's place and then at about 6:30pm, Dereck drove me to the airport.

Had a good flight home and Grant and Lauren came to fetch me. Dereck drove back yesterday (with all that terrible rain) and arrived back safely at 6:30pm. It was good to have him home!

I have been awarded a few blog awards which I still need to copy the pictures and paste them onto my blog - "please be patient, the awards will be posted". I do appreciate getting them, but have just been otherwise occupied.

Updated signing off ....

Thanks for getting us up to speed with your busy life, not that we can actually catch up with you having so much on the go. I take my hat off to you for all the training you are putting in for the Midmar. I am sure you will be flying success in the water. Enjoy your man being back. Hugs from Desire
PS: That Shelley is now a real bad influence on your scrapping he he he ....

Glad to see you posting again...sounds like you have been seriously busy! I also love going to Joburg & getting out & about with a change of scenery. Sorry you may have noticed you are no longer on my blog roll but it is only because of my blog crash & the re-installation brought up the old one as I had not yet backed up my updated one. Hope to do it again this weekend:-) Train hard (I could never swim that far!!!)
